Understanding the neurology of a newborn is important for the physician to be able to recognize and treat subtle manifestations of neurologic disease in a neonate. With new technologies, genetics, and treatments in development, it is becoming vital to diagnose and identify disease early in a child’s life to provide appropriate treatment or anticipatory guidance. Thus, careful clinical evaluation is critical to noticing disturbances in neurologic function.
