A patient with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has persistent deficits in social communication and interaction, along with restrictive, repetitive behaviors. Children with autism are more likely to be hospitalized, have longer lengths of stay, and have higher rates of medical and psychiatric comorbidities, which can complicate the hospitalization.
