Erythema multiforme (EM), Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS)/toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), and Mycoplasma-induced rash and mucositis (MIRM) are relatively uncommon, distinct disorders of the skin and mucous membranes. Classic EM involves the skin only, whereas SJS/TEN always affects the skin and mucous membranes. MIRM is now the proper terminology when a Mycoplasma infection causes a mucocutaneous eruption, as the clinical features are distinct from SJS/TEN. MIRM always involves the mucous membranes and may occur with or without skin involvement.
