Book sharing can play an essential role in anti-racism work with families. Fundamentally, reading books together serves several critical functions, not all of which are the exclusive domain of conversations around racism and discrimination. Sharing books offers a route for building vital elements of relational health. It is a foundation for family discussions where parents or caregivers can play that all-important, sense-making role for their children as they explore and wonder about the world around them. Book sharing can create a scaffold for conversations or ease the route into discussing topics, particularly if they are not necessarily easy to take on.
