Bronchiectasis is the dilatation of bronchi and bronchioles associated with airway wall thickening.1,2  The most common cause among children in North America is cystic fibrosis (CF), but there are numerous other potential underlying causes (Table 17-1). The most commonly identified causes have considerable geographic variability based on the risk of serious infections and the particular diagnostic expertise of regional medical centers.3  A 2014 study demonstrated that in most, but not all, children a cause of non-CF bronchiectasis can be identified, with infection, primary immunodeficiency, aspiration, and primary ciliary dyskinesia being the most common causes....
