Investigators from multiple institutions conducted a systematic review to identify risk factors for readmission after an index hospitalization for asthma in pediatric patients. Multiple databases were searched to identify publications that were original-research clinical trials and cross-sectional, case-control, prospective cohort, and quality improvement studies on asthma-specific hospital readmission in children. A standardized process was used to determine which identified studies were included in the review. Asthma readmissions were categorized as early (≤30 days after discharge from the index hospitalization) or late (>30 days).
