Q In what situations is the use of a qualified sign language interpreter required?

A Doctors' offices are considered public accommodations and they have a duty to provide their patients equal access to services. In order to provide equal access, physicians must provide for effective communication. During anything other than the most routine appointment, you probably want to ensure that you have an interpreter. Ask at the time the appointment is made. You're not expected to know ahead of time.
