TV-violence study

The Academy is one of 17 national organizations asked to conduct the Council of the Independent Television Violence Assessment Study, commissioned by the National Cable Television Association (NCTA). The $3.3-million study is the largest and most comprehensive analysis of U.S. television ever undertaken, according to Mediascope, the study's administrator.

AAP Washington Chapter President Don Shifrin, M.D., will serve on the council on behalf of the Academy. He will join other health, psychology, education, law and entertainment professionals to conduct a three-year content analysis of more than 8,000 hours of television on 25 channels.
