I'd like to commend Dr. Richard Green for his opinion concerning gun ownership and our position as pediatricians (Second Opinions, September AAP News). Dr. Green's views have been sorely missing or misrepresented in our professional literature as well as the lay media.

We now have the most restrictive gun laws in our national history, yet gun-related deaths, both accidental and intentional, continue to rise. What we as a nation don't seem to want to admit is that this is a problem of personal responsibility — or rather, its lack.
