SAN FRANCISCO — Adults who've been cherished as children are best at bringing joy to the young, "Mister Rogers' Neighborhood" host Fred Rogers told pediatricians during the AAP Annual Meeting keynote address.
"I believe adults' successful work with children is based on us having been children ourselves," Rogers said Oct. 16 at San Francisco's Moscone Convention Center. "If we were loved and valued in our childhood, we're able to love and value as adults.
"Those of us who have to work with children need children to confirm our identities," he said. "Therefore, any threat to the children we work with is a threat to our own identity."
