The American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) has revised its recertification exam by shortening the computerized test and offering an open-book, written version.

ABP officials announced in May they were revising the Program for Renewal of Certification in Pediatrics (PRCP) in response to physicians who want an alternative recertification method. ABP officials also have eliminated the test's record review section.

However, despite repeated attempts by AAP members to eliminate recertification through Annual Chapter Forum resolutions, ABP leaders said they will not back away from their position that periodic testing is needed.
