Opportunities for AAP membership now are open to qualified osteopathic pediatricians, pediatric dentists and pediatricians around the world as a result of bylaw changes approved by members in May.
Members also approved three other bylaw changes that will affect future AAP elections:
• Both fellows and specialty fellows will be accepted as potential nominees for national office;
• National elections will be held in May instead of April; and
• The time allowed for future bylaw balloting will be doubled.
In addition, future Academy fellows studying for their boards will have seven years, rather than four; to remain candidate fellows.
The changes were approved by a two-thirds majority of the 10,654 AAP members who voted, a turnout of nearly 35 percent of the membership. Changes took effect July 1.
