The August AAP News contained an insert titled "Managed Care, School Health, and Public Policy: Where's home?" While this insert addresses financial issues, it fails to address the most obvious weakness of the school health services movement — lack of parental participation.

As a former public school teacher and current School Health Advisory member for our local school district, I endorse the vital role of schools in our communities for our children and families. I have no strong aversion to offering health care in the school setting as long as the health care delivered is consistent with the AAP definition of a "medical home," including "family-centered."
