As I contract with more and more managed care plans, I find that it is increasingly difficult for my office staff to keep track of payments, billing, utilization and scheduling. What information systenms should be in place to accommodate managed care record keeping?

According to a recent AAP Periodic Survey, many pediatricians are unsure of the capabilites of the computer systems currently being used in their offices. Consequently, you should first understand what resources are available to you — computer vendors, management consultants, and organizations such as the Academy and the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) — that might help make sense out of existing software.
