Burtis Burr Breese, M.D., FAAP, clinical professor of pediatrics at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in New York, died May 11. He was 92.

Dr. Breese was known internationally for his work in streptococcal infection and as a pioneer in private office-based medical research. He received the Academy's first Practitioner's Excellence in Research Award in 1986, which he shared with Frank A. Disney, M.D., FAAP.

A graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Medical School, Dr. Breese received his residency training in internal medicine and pediatrics. He also obtained postgraduate training in bacteriology at Harvard Medical School.
