The Academy has urged a recall of all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) in use and a ban on future production of these cycles in a policy statement by the AAP Committee on Accident and Poison Prevention.

Joseph Greensher, M.D., FAAP, chairman of the committee, announced the statement at a press conference at the AAP Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. The statement will appear in the February 1987 issue of Pediatrics.

"Although all-terrain vehicles have been in use in this country for 15 years, they have only recently reached enormous popularity, particulary among the young," the statement notes.
