Infant mortality rates are dropping and immunization programs are reaching more and more children in developing countries, but William H. Foege, M.D., said there is also a bleak side to international health.

In the Unites States infant mortality stood at 150 deaths per 1,000 live births at the turn of the century, Dr. Foege, executive director of the Task Force for Child Survival, said during his keynote address at the AAP Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.
