While the Academy prepares to mark its 75th year in 2005, many AAP chapters have celebrated or are planning to commemorate milestone anniversaries of their own.
The establishment of the Texas Pediatric Society in 1921 (the AAP Texas Chapter) actually preceded the formation of the Academy. The chapter celebrated its 75th anniversary in 1996. That same year, the New Mexico Chapter turned 50. The Tennessee Chapter celebrates 50 years in 2005, while Oregon and Alabama will reach 40 and 50, respectively, in 2007. Back in 2003,New York Chapter 2 issued a formal document of its history, while the Delaware and Georgia Chapters each are working on similar projects.
Individual chapter histories are as rich, varied and comprehensive as the Academy's. Over the years, chapters have carried out the Academy's mission while also pursuing issues unique to their respective states.
