As recently elected District II chair, Henry A. Schaeffer, M.D., FAAP,wasted no time to begin work on finding solutions to three of New York's significant pediatric issues: Medicaid, mental health and immunizations. And he believes much headway can be made to address these issues with help from AAP colleagues and resources.
Dr. Schaeffer considers his decision to get involved with the Academy to be one of the defining moments of his medical career. He's been active in a variety of roles at the Academy over the years, including chair of the AAP Committee on Hospital Care, president of his local AAP chapter and twice-elected vice chair of District II.
“I really think that we can make a difference,” he said of the Academy, “and I can be involved as a board member in making that difference for kids and for pediatricians.”
