The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that it will postpone making the National Provider Identifier (NPI) registry available publicly until Aug. 1, 2007. Many physicians expressed concern regarding the potentially sensitive nature of information that could be made available through this release. Physicians now have until July 16 to check for accuracy the "optional information" that will be released to the public on Aug. 1.
