The Federation of Pediatric Organizations (FOPO) is continuing to lend its strong, unified voice to issues that impact all areas of pediatrics.

FOPO acts as an umbrella group to seven pediatric organizations, including the Academy. It looks for overlapping themes among members and helps coordinate activities among the organizations.

“In the past, FOPO issued policy statements and convened groups when there were specific cross-cutting issues that needed resolution,” said Executive Director Theodore C. Sectish, M.D., FAAP. “FOPO can only establish policies when there is a unanimous vote of all organizations, when the issues are clearly representing the consensus of the academic organizations involved.”

“There has been remarkable unanimity,” he said. “It does feel like there’s a real desire to see some actions happen that will broadly affect children’s health.”
