When Margaret Blythe, M.D., FAAP, got a call from the Academy’s federal affairs office April 15 asking her to testify before a congressional committee, her first thought was “Oh my gosh!” And then, “This is something I have to do.”
With her April 23 congressional debut, Dr. Blythe, chair of the AAP Committee on Adolescence, joined a parade of pediatricians going to Capitol Hill this spring to advocate and educate lawmakers and the public alike on issues important to children’s health and well-being. Over a six-week period, AAP Fellows spoke out at congressional forums on all-terrain vehicle (ATV) safety, climate change, Medicaid cuts, sexuality education, foster care and pediatricians’ graduate medical education.
