The AAP Section on Child Abuse and Neglect (SOCAN) is recognizing the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and its 25th anniversary. The recognition will take place at the SOCAN meeting at the AAP National Conference & Exhibition at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 18 in room 203 of the Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.
The center was launched by President Ronald Reagan to prevent sexual exploitation and abduction of children. Its early beginnings was as the Adam Walsh Missing Children Outreach Center in the garage of Reve and John Walsh, host of the “America’s Most Wanted” television show. In 25 years, more than 121,000 missing children have been recovered.
