A new clinical practice guideline offers simple, cost-effective methods to reduce pain and distress for children receiving immunizations.

Endorsed by the Canadian Paediatric Society among other groups, “Reducing the Pain of Childhood Vaccination: an Evidence-based Clinical Practice Guideline” was developed by the Help Eliminate Pain in KIDS Team of experts from Canada. It employs a “3-P” approach to pain management when administering vaccines using pharmacologic, physical and psychological strategies.

The guideline and supporting appendices can be downloaded for free at the Canadian Medical Association Journal Web site, www.cmaj.ca/cgi/rapidpdf/cmaj.101720v1.
