An article on page 30 of the August issue of AAP News, “Firearm counseling, Medicaid among pediatric issues discussed at AMA Meeting,” incorrectly stated that the Academy has joined an amicus brief related to the Florida ban on firearm counseling by physicians.

The article should have read: In early June, Florida enacted a law restricting physicians, nurses and other medical staff from asking about guns in the home, threatening disciplinary action by licensing boards governing those professionals. The Florida Pediatric Society, along with the Florida chapters of the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American College of Physicians and six individual physicians, have filed a lawsuit seeking an injunction to prevent enforcement of the law. The resolution aimed to secure AMA support for this and any other lawsuit that threatened a physician’s ability to provide counseling on firearms or any other prevention issue.
