It’s hard to believe, but my term as AAP president is rapidly drawing to a close. Recently, I was asked what advice I will give our incoming president, Tom McInerny. I replied, “Relish the opportunity!”

As I reflect on the opportunities I’ve experienced, I will be forever grateful to AAP members, the outstanding AAP executive office leaders and our marvelous staff. It has been especially inspiring to have the opportunity to work alongside district chairs who serve as members of our board of directors, leaders for their districts and supporters of chapters — all while maintaining their professional and personal responsibilities.

My second suggestion for Dr. McInerny is “Communicate the joy!” The breadth and depth of the work of the Academy is limitless. I hope I have been able to communicate a small sampling of the Academy’s work through this column. I will always remember the opportunities afforded me to...
