David J. Schonfeld, M.D., FAAP, of Glendale, Ohio, has been appointed by Connecticut Gov. Dannel P. Malloy to the Sandy Hook Advisory Commission, established in the wake of the Newtown, Conn., tragedy in which 20 children and six adults lost their lives.

Director of the National Center for School Crisis and Bereavement, Dr. Schonfeld will join 15 other appointees on the expert panel, who are charged with reviewing policy and making recommendations in the areas of public safety, specifically school safety, mental health and gun violence prevention. The initial report is due to the governor by March 15, in time for consideration during the regular session of the General Assembly.
