A hospital pediatrician who was instrumental in organizing educational programming for the rapidly developing field, Laura Mirkinson, M.D., M.Sc., FAAP, of Larchmont, N.Y., died of ovarian cancer April 29. She was 60.

Dr. Mirkinson was a founder and served as the second chair of the AAP Section on Hospital Medicine Executive Committee and was chair of the AAP Committee on Hospital Medicine. She was dedicated to seeing the successful development of hospital medicine.

“Her focus was always on what would be best for the children,” said Jack Percelay, M.D., FAAP, co-founder of the section who served as its first chair. “She demonstrated excellence that helped the field grow.”

Dr. Mirkinson was focused on the AAP National Conference & Exhibition educational program that featured topics and speakers appealing to the section as well as the broader membership. As the first editor of the section’s newsletter, she contributed toward its evolution...
