Errol R. Alden, M.D., FAAP, announced on May 20 his plans to step down as AAP executive director/ chief executive officer in July 2015, pending the naming of his successor.
A neonatologist with excellent clinical, educational and research credentials, Dr. Alden joined the Academy staff in 1987 and served with great success as director of education and as associate executive director before becoming executive director/CEO in 2004.
In the coming year, Dr. Alden will continue to lead the AAP with the excellence we have come to expect; he has a busy agenda to complete before next summer! However, with his announcement, I think it is important to take a moment to acknowledge what he has meant to the Academy.
