Mary E. Fallat, M.D., FAAP, of Louisville, Ky., and Manish I. Shah, M.D., FAAP, of Houston, were appointed by the U.S. transportation secretary to the National Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council. The council provides input to the Department of Transportation and Federal Interagency Committee on Emergency Medical Services.
Dr. Fallat is professor and chief of pediatric surgery at University of Louisville and chief of surgery at Kosair Children’s Hospital. She also has been a principal or co-investigator of the EMS for Children Program in Kentucky since 1993.
Dr. Shah is assistant professor and co-director of research education at Baylor College of Medicine’s Section of Emergency Medicine in Houston. He has directed the Emergency Medical Services for Children State Partnership in Texas since 2009 and is immediate past chair of the AAP Section on Emergency Medicine’s Emergency Medical Services Subcommittee.
