The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia (SPA) collaborated to create an app called Pediatric Critical Events Checklist that provides pathways and algorithms for decision support during rare or unusual pediatric events.

The SPA’s Quality and Safety Committee created 18 algorithms, which were adapted into the content for the app by a team of anesthesiology and critical care physicians and informatics experts at CHOP. Topics covered include:

Each crisis checklist summarizes the problem, factors to consider and potential next steps. The checklists also include drug treatments, if appropriate, and a weight-based medication dose calculation for emergency medications specific to each algorithm.

Additional features include:

The app is free and available for download in the iTunes App Store, https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/pediatric-critical-events/id709721914.
