A look back, a look forward

When the first session of the 100th Congress came to a close Dec. 22, AAP members had an impressive list of legislative accomplishments to their credit.

Passage of the vaccine injury compensation bill culminated 10 years of work. Not to be overlooked were legislative achievements expanding Medicaid eligibility, banning airline smoking, funding emergency medical services programs, providing money for projects concerning babies abandoned in hospitals, creating a National Commission on Children, and increasing funding for the maternal and child health (MCH) block grant, National Institutes of Health (NIH) and childhood immunization programs.
