Radical changes are needed in the Medicare and Medicaid programs before AAP leaders will be able to obtain adequate health care financing for poor children, a health policy consultant recently told the AAP Committee on Child Health Financing (COCHF).

"I don't think you're going to be able to get to where you want to go by advocating incremental change in Medicaid financing," said Jeffrey Goldsmith, president of Health Futures, a health policy consulting firm.
