Seat belt safety

While state laws requiring the use of automobile safety belts have saved nearly 1,300 lives, greater compliance and "buckle-up" laws in every state could dramatically reduce the number of traffic fatalities, researchers tell the Associated Press.

Three University of North Carolina researchers say their study proves that there is a direct relationship between strong enforcement of seat belt laws and reductions in highway deaths.
