The Academy is encouraging expansion of the Women Infants and Children (WIC) supplemental nutrition program, AAP President Richard Narkewicz, M.D., said.

"Nationally, we (WIC) are serving less than one half of the eligible at-risk infants, children and mothers," Dr. Narkewicz told about 500 WIC directors, federal USDA managers and other WIC administrators. "Efficiency alone will not solve these problems. We need more funding."
