Vermont: "Dancing" with the candidates

AAP Vermont Chapter members received some political as well as medical education during their Annual Meeting. While the afternoon portion of the October meeting was devoted to CME topics, the evening session featured a debate among four U.S. senate candidates.

The candidates were contending for the seat vacated by Sen. Robert Stafford (R-Vt.), who retired last year after 17 years of service. Former U.S. Rep. James Jeffords (R-Vt.) won the seat in the November election.

The chapter hosted the debate not only to learn the candidates' stances on issues, but also to gain publicity for the chapter and for child health issues, said Vermont Chapter Vice President Joseph Hagan Jr., M.D. Although he said he has received nothing but positive comments from members regarding the debate, Dr. Hagan expressed disappointment that the event did not receive more publicity.
