Goals recently established for the AAP "Tobacco Free Generation" and "Make Every Ride ... A Safe Ride" programs will help focus efforts under the programs during the next three years.

Ways to achieve the goals were discussed by state program coordinators during separate workshops held at the 1988 AAP Annual Meeting, said Program Manager Susan Hess.

Efforts to achieve some "Tobacco Free" goals have begun. A mailing to "Tobacco Free" coordinators and AAP chapter presidents is being planned to promote an American Lung Association kit that urges the creation of smoke-free environments for young children. In addition, a presentation on how to use the kit is being planned for the "Tobacco Free Generation" workshop during the upcoming AAP Spring Session.
