Sevreral years ago, the Academy launched a program designed to link AAP chapters and Latin American, African and Southeast Asian pediatric societies. The purpose was to foster exchanges of interested pediatricians and other health care personnel and to facilitate shipment of teaching materials to laces where resources are scarce. Twenty eight of the 59 AAP chapters have joined this program and are in various stages of development.

Since the program's inception, it became apparent that the interest most pediatricians have in this program comes from personal experiences in a particular country.
