The AAP decision to oppose direct advertising of infant formula is wrong and certainly not to the benefit of the patient. Very few physicians are capable of making informative nutritional decisions because less than one out of every 100 physicians in this country receive adequate nutrition training. In fact, there are more parents and other health care professionals with greater knowledge in this area than physicians. This is due to the fact that many people pursue the truth and facts regarding nutrition and are interested enough in the problem to read information on their own.
