Infant water intoxication has increased significantly among poor, inner-city families, according to a study published in the Dec. 15, 1991 Emergency Medicine.

According to the report, among the 24 water-intoxicated children who were treated at St. Louis Children's Hospital from 1988 through 1990, 22 were infants. Investigators compare this number to 10 such patients who were treated between 1975 and 1987.
