The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) denied the petition submitted by the Academy and other organizations to ban baby walkers in a 3-0 vote, April 15.

Citing baby walkers as mechanical hazards under the Federal Hazardous Substances Act, the Academy, along with the Consumer Federation of America, the AAP Washington state chapter, the National SAFE KIDS Campaign, and Consumers Union of the United States, petitioned the commission in August to prohibit the U.S. manufacture and sale of baby walkers.
