Children’s board books
Candlewick Press, of Cambridge, Mass., is recalling 79,000 “Bunny My Honey” children’s board books printed in Italy because the plastic lamination could peel off, posing a choking hazard to young children. No injuries have been reported.
Only books printed in Italy are part of the recall. Bookstores, gift shops and children’s stores sold these books nationwide from December 2000 to September 2001 for $7.
Consumers should discard these books and contact Candlewick Press at (800) 883-0009 or www.candlewick.com to receive a free replacement book.
Rattles
Sassy Inc., of Northbrook, Ill., is recalling 455,000 soft rattles because the fabric eyes sewn on rattles can detach and cause young children to choke.
Sassy has received 129 reports of eyes detaching. Pieces have been found in children’s mouths, and one child began choking on a rattle piece.
The rattles were sold nationwide from August 1999 to October 2001 for $5. Rattles with sewn-on fabric eyes that match the following descriptions are being recalled. Rattles with embroidered eyes are not involved in the recall.
Lily Pad Rattle, a green frog and multicolored body.
Bitty Kity Rattle, a purple cat face connected to a purple ball.
This Little Piggy Rattle, a pink pig connected to a green ball.
Goo Goo Goldfish, a multicolored fish.
Smoochie Poochie Rattle, a blue puppy face connected to a green and blue body.
Crinkly Crown Dragon Rattle, a green dragon with a curved tail.

Toy boxes
Palliser Furniture Ltd., of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, is recalling 4,500 toy boxes because the lids can fall unexpectedly and trap or strangle children. Also, spaces near the end of the hinge could pinch, crush or cut children’s fingers.
No injuries have been reported.
“Palliser” and the model number are on a label inside or on the back of toy boxes. The model numbers being recalled are: 580-283, 581-283, 582-283, 584-283, 589-283 and 598-283. The toy boxes come in different colored finishes, are 36 inches long, 19 inches wide and 21 inches high.
Furniture stores sold these toy boxes nationwide and in Canada from July 1999 to August 2001 for $150.

Automatic security gates
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is notifying consumers of a new safety standard for automatic security gates because children can become entrapped in certain gates.
Automatic gates that slide or swing open and closed are found at the entrances of residences, businesses, parking lots and garages.
Since 1985, the deaths of 32 people, including 20 children, have been reported to CPSC related to automatic gates. CPSC estimates that 25,000 injuries related to automatic gates, including 9,000 injuries to children, have occurred between 1990 and 2000.
The new safety standard that CPSC and Underwriters Laboratories developed requires automatic gates to have at least two mechanisms — such as sensing or reversing devices — to prevent entrapment.
