AIDS-related heart damage

AIDS-related heart damage often kills children before other symptoms of the deadly virus appear, heart researchers tell the Associated Press.

Autopsies of infants and children with AIDS suffer inflamed and enlarged hearts' and damage to cells that make the heart beat as well as scarring, thickening and degeneration of arteries, says Saroja Bharati, M.D., chief of pathology at the Deborah Heart and Lung Center in Browns Mills, New Jersey.
