Contaminated plasma
The American Red Cross withdrew 54 lots of plasma products on March 29, because they were produced from blood taken from a donor who might have Creutzfeld-Jakob disease. Withdrawn plasma products include coagulation factors, albumin, plasma protein fraction and intravenous immune globulin.
A rare neurological disease, Creutz-feld-Jakob disease is not believed to be transmissible through blood transfusion, U.S. Food and Drug Administration officials stated.
