Sexual harassment in the workplace is not a new problem, nor is the medical workplace exempt from this problem. Developments in federal and state guidelines, as well as media attention, have created a heightened awareness of this complex issue.
The AAP Committee on Careers and Opportunities (COCO) has taken a pro-active stance by developing the following policy statement on sexual harassment. This statement defines sexual harassment and delineates the AAP position that all individuals desire and deserve a workplace where they are treated with appropriate respect in a comfortable environment, conducive to effective teamwork and optimal productivity.
