Kids II, of Alpharetta, Ga., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, is recalling 99,000 bouncer seats for in-home repair because the removable toy bar that attaches to the seat can release suddenly, injuring babies.

There have been 122 reports of toy bars releasing, with 31 reports of injuries to babies, including a black eye, a scraped eye and facial cuts.

Only bouncer seats with semi-circular toy bars on both the Soft Toy Bouncer Seat and the Comfort Me Bouncer are included in the recall. Each bar has three toys.

Stores nationwide sold the seats from October 1997 to April 2000 for $25 to $35.

By Us International Co. Ltd., of Taiwan, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, is recalling 13,500 Ballistic front suspension forks installed on certain Brunswick mountain bicycles because the forks can break apart, causing riders to lose control and fall.

By Us and Brunswick have received 18 reports of forks breaking. Nine of the reports included serious head and bodily injuries, including cuts, bruises and chipped teeth.

Three bicycles were manufactured with the recalled forks: Mongoose S-20, MGX S-20 and Roadmaster Ridge Rider. The forks on these bikes are black with decals that read “Ballistic” and “105” on the sides of the suspension fork legs. The recall includes only forks with the following serial numbers, which are on the inside of the suspension fork legs: BA10044001 through BA10049000, BA10050001 through BA10051000, BAX0001251 through BAX0006750, BAX0006781 through BAX0007080 and 98022087 through 98027843.

The bicycles were sold nationwide at discount department and toy stores from September 1998 to May 2000 for $125 to $150.

Warner Bros. Studio Store, of Burbank, Calif., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), is recalling 3,800 Tweety rattles and 1,000 pairs of Tweety sandals because small parts on each product can detach and pose a choking hazard to young children.

CPSC and Warner Bros. Studio Store have received three reports of parents removing detached parts of sandals and a rattle from their babies’ mouths. No injuries have been reported.

The rattle, sold as part of a Tweety Bib, Rattle and Spoon Set, is a Tweety image with a small blue and white bib tied around the neck. The bib can detach, posing a choking hazard to a young child.

Warner Bros. stores nationwide sold the Tweety Bib, Rattle and Spoon Sets from August 1998 to January 2000 for about $15.

The Tweety sandals, sold in infant sizes, are made of transparent pink plastic with embedded sparkles. The sandals have three round plastic flowers attached to the top surface. The flowers can detach, posing a choking hazard to a young child.

Warner Bros. stores nationwide sold the sandals from February to April 2000 for $10.

Jack Rabbit Creations Inc., of Atlanta, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, is recalling 9,000 hand-painted wooden stacking toys called Stacking King because parts of the toy’s base can detach, presenting a choking hazard to young children.

Jack Rabbit Creations has received four reports of the wooden pegs in the base coming loose. No injuries have been reported.

These stacking toys have seven interlocking multicolored, doughnut-shaped pieces mounted on pegs. The top of the toy has a round hand-painted face with a wooden yellow crown.

Specialty and gift shops sold these products from February 1999 to April 2000 for about $25.

Filter Tech Inc., of Huntington, W.Va., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, is recalling 335,000 bottles of Aqua Mist windshield washer fluid because they are not sealed with child-resistant closures. The fluid contains methyl alcohol, also known as methanol, which is toxic and can cause blindness or death if ingested.

There are no reports of injuries.

The 1-gallon bottles of Aqua Mist Windshield Washer Fluid being recalled have twist-off caps.

Speedway Superamerica stores and other automotive stores in Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia sold the bottles of windshield washer fluid from October 1999 to April 2000 for about $1.50.

Hangouts, of Boulder, Colo., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), is recalling 350 baby hammocks because they can become twisted around children’s necks and strangle them. Also, infants sleeping on soft bedding can become wedged in positions in which they cannot breathe.

There are no reports of injuries caused by these hammocks. Previously, however, CPSC received 12 reports of children dying in other mini-hammocks.

The 6-foot-long mini-hammocks with model number MY-BB-1110 are woven from thin cotton strings, with nylon end strings in solid or multistriped colors. The Hangout store in Boulder, Colo., and its catalogs sold these $20 hammocks from January 1990 through September 1999.

Answer Products Inc., of Valencia, Calif., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, is recalling 17,500 BMX and mountain bicycle forks because the tube that attaches the fork to the bicycle can fail, causing riders to lose control and fall.

Answer Products has received six reports of the forks failing, causing minor injuries to two consumers, including cuts, bruises and chipped teeth.

These 2000 model bicycle forks have been installed on more than 30 models of bicycles and sold under Answer and Manitou brand names. The Answer BMX forks are the Carbo Pro and Mag Pro models. The Manitou mountain bike forks are Mars and X-Vert Super models. Bicycle brands made with these forks include Specialized, Klein, Jamis and Marin.

Bicycle stores nationwide and mail-order catalogs sold bikes containing these forks from August 1999 to May 2000. The forks cost from $245 to $695, and the assembled bicycles with these forks range from $1,200 to more than $3,000.

Mervyn’s California, of Hayward, Calif., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, is recalling 1,200 children’s plastic picnic sets in clear bags because the paint used on the bags contains high levels of lead.

Lead poisoning in children is associated with behavior problems, learning disabilities, hearing problems and growth retardation.

There have been no reports of injuries.

The clear bag reads “Australia” in multicolored lettering, “Down Under” in blue lettering, and has an illustration of a koala bear face. The picnic set inside the bag consists of four blue cups; four light blue bowls; four small, purple plates; four red plates with a bear illustration; and a set of cutlery.

Mervyn’s stores sold the sets nationwide from April to May 2000 for about $13.

Universal Security Instruments Inc., of Owings Mills, Md., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, is recalling 34,000 smoke alarms because they can fail to sound when smoke or fire is present. A capacitor in the alarm can burn out, releasing smoke and melting the cover.

Universal has received three reports of alarms failing and releasing smoke, with one report of minor smoke damage to a mobile home, but no injuries.

The following brands and models are included:

• Safe T Alert, model number SA-785, date code BCSR;

• Universal, model number SS-785, date code BCSR;

• Universal, model number SS-795, date code BESS;

• USI Electric, model number USI-1203, date code BESS.

Some alarms do not have the brand name printed on the unit. Date codes and model numbers can be found under the alarm cover.

Electrical distributors, housing suppliers and hardware stores sold the white smoke alarms nationwide from April 1998 to June 1999 for $10 to $15. Most were pre-installed in homes during construction.
