Smokeless tobacco ads

The AAP is calling for a federal ban on the advertising of all smokeless tobacco products in a policy statement published in the December Pediatrics.

In the statement, the AAP Committee on Environmental Hazards also recommends that all packages of smokeless tobacco contain warning labels on the product's harm, that associations representing professional athletes discourage their members from appearing in smokeless tobacco advertisements, and that Congress reinstate the federal excise tax on smokeless tobacco, which was repealed in 1965.
