The American Academy of Pediatrics strongly recommends that continuing care for all children and adolescents be provided by a primary care pediatrician. School-based assessments were originated years ago during a period when many school children had little or no access to routine health supervision by a qualified physician. However, today, there is a sizeable population of pediatricians available to provide regular health services for children. Therefore, few, if any, children need to receive their health evaluations in school.
