Acetaminophen warning

The AAP Committee on Drugs is asking the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to require warning labels on adult suppositories.

In a letter to the FDA, the committee cites the death of a child related directly to the use of an adult suppository.

"There have been similar cases in the past involving adult size aminophylline suppositories cut into pieces in an attempt to accommodate administration to children," the letter states. "Such children have either received an overdose or an underdose."
