Footballs
Hasbro Inc., of Pawtucket, R.I., is recalling 294,000 NERF Big Play Footballs because they contain hard plastic interior frames that pose a risk of injury if a child is hit during play.
There have been nine reports of facial injuries, with eight individuals requiring stitches or medical attention.
The NERF Big Play Football is red and silver with a flip-open top that reveals an erasable writing pad on which children can plan football plays. The NERF name, an NFL logo and a large black “X” are on the silver region of the football.
The footballs were sold at Toys R Us, Wal-Mart, Target, KB Toys stores and other toy retailers nationwide from August 2003 to January 2004 for $10. Stop using this football immediately and return it to the company for a replacement NERF product of equal value. Cribs
Child Craft Industries, of Salem, Ind., is recalling 3,500 “Legacy Cribs” because the slats on the drop side rail can loosen and detach, posing a risk of injury to babies.
If the slats detach, a gap is created that can allow a baby to become entangled, strangle or fall out of the crib.
There have been 12 reports of the slats detaching. No injuries have been reported.
The cribs, which include model numbers 16741, 21021, 23111 and 28721, are full-sized and made from ash and maple woods. They were sold in a variety of colors at juvenile furniture stores nationwide between March 2002 and January 2004 for $399 to $549.
Consumers should stop using the cribs immediately and contact Child Craft Industries at (888) 844-2674 to receive a replacement drop side rail.
Children’s jackets
Meijer Distribution Inc., of Grand Rapids, Mich., is recalling 58,000 Kids Falls Creek PU jackets with polar fleece in the hoods because the zipper pull in the jacket can detach, posing a choking hazard to small children.
No incidents have been reported.
The jackets were sold in various colors and sizes for boys and girls at Meijer retail stores in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Illinois between August and December 2003 for $30. A label inside the jacket reads, “Authentic Falls Creek.”

Activity cubes
PlayWell Toy Co., of West Orange, N.J., is recalling 11,200 PlayWell Crayola Activity Cubes because small parts can detach from the toy, posing a choking hazard to small children.
PlayWell has received three reports of small parts detaching and one report of a piece being in a child’s mouth. No injuries have been reported.
The activity cube is about 9 inches tall and is made of wood. Each side of the cube has a different game, and the top has crayon characters and beads that slide along a spiral glide.
The cubes were sold at Shopko Stores nationwide from October 2003 through January 2004.

Children’s sweatshirts
Meijer Distribution Inc., of Grand Rapids, Mich., is recalling 18,655 children’s sweatshirts because they have drawstrings in the hood. Children can get entangled and strangle if the drawstrings catch on items such as playground equipment or fences.
No incidents have been reported.
The fleece sweatshirts were sold under the brand name “Emergency Exit” in children’s sizes 4-18. Sold in a variety of colors, the sweatshirts have a tribal design, dragon, motocross or skateboarding pattern on the chest.
The sweatshirts were sold at Meijer retail stores in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Illinois between August 2003 and January 2004 for $20 to $22.
Consumers should stop their children from wearing the sweatshirts and return the items to Meijer retail stores for a refund. Consumers also may remove the drawstrings to eliminate the hazard.

Plush spider toys
Mary Meyer Corp., of Townshend, Vt., is recalling 10,000 “Webster” activity spider toys because the round stuffed feet on the toy can detach, posing a choking hazard to children.
Mary Meyer Corp. has received five reports of the stuffed feet detaching. No injuries have been reported.
The toy can be hung from a crib or carriage. It has eight legs with rounded stuffed feet and a mirror on the underside that makes a squeaky sound when bounced.
The toy spiders were sold at department and specialty stores nationwide from January 2002 through September 2003 for $10.

Toy radios
Schylling Associates Inc., of Rowley, Mass., is recalling 15,600 “Wooden Music Radios” because a wooden turning knob and antenna top can break off, posing a choking hazard to young children and exposing a sharp point.
No incidents have been reported.
The song boxes have a wind-up knob, picture window, flexible antenna and wooden carrying handle. Each music box plays a song when the main dial is turned.
The music boxes were sold at specialty stores, gift stores, department stores and bookstores nationwide from September 2003 to January 2004 for $12.

Children’s swings
Swing-N-Slide, of Janesville, Wis., is recalling 1,220 “Mega Rider” swings because the plastic handle on the swing could crack at the seat connection, posing a risk of injury to children.
There has been one report of a swing breaking. No injuries have been reported.
One or two children can use the backyard playground swing. The plastic blue Mega Rider is suspended from a crossbeam by four plastic-coated chains. Children sitting back-to-back push in different directions to make the swing move.
The swing was sold at Lowe’s and Home Depot stores by special order, and through Ace, DIBC, TruServ, Handy Hardware, Emery Warehouse and Federated co-ops and buying groups nationwide from March to October 2003 for $90.

Candy lollipops
Toy Investments Inc., of Auburn, Wash., is recalling its 1.25-ounce “Jelly Pops” candy lollipops because they may contain undeclared eggs and peanuts. People with allergies to eggs or peanuts run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions to the lollipops.
Toy Investments Inc. has received one report of an illness associated with the lollipops.
The candy comes in four insect-themed styles — a ladybug, a cricket, a butterfly and a dragonfly. They were packaged in a 24-piece display unit under the heading “Sweet Pops” and were sold in toy and gift stores nationwide.

Candle sets
Dollar Tree Stores Inc., of Chesapeake, Va., is recalling 68,400 Luminessence T-Lite Candles with Glass Holders because paint on the exterior of the candles can sustain a flame, posing a fire hazard.
Dollar Tree has received six reports of candles producing excessive flame and/or igniting. Three of these incidents involved minor injuries, and three involved minor property damage.
The packages of eight gold or silver tea light candles and one flower-shaped glass holder were sold at Dollar Tree, Only One Dollar, Dollar Express and Dollar Bills retail stores nationwide from September to October 2003 for $1.
